Veteran coach Les George is in his first year as the Head Coach of the Bear Football Team. George is no stranger to the MACCC Conference.
The East Central High School graduate played at Mississippi Gulf Coast where he earned All-Region 23 and All-MACJC honors during his sophomore year in 2006. He finished his undergrad at Bacone College earning a degree in Sports Management.
George then returned to his home state and attended graduate school at Belhaven where he spent three seasons coaching the offensive line. George helped make a difference for the Blazers' offense in 2012 in rushing offense and touchdowns as it ranked among the top 12 teams in the nation for both while also setting school single season and game records in both categories. George coached Matt Hall who earned All-American Southwest Conference and AFCA NAIA First Team All-American honors in addition to being named a finalist for the Conerly Trophy.
Following his time at Belhaven, George returned to Gulf Coast as coach of the offensive line, where he was a part of the national championship team in 2019. He also coached 30 players who moved on to play at four-year programs.
Prior to coming to Southwest, George was the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach at Holmes. While in Goodman, George helped lead the 2024 Bulldogs to their first playoff appearance since 2003.
Among the players under George's leadership were Martinas Rankin, Percy Lewis, Markel Bell and D'Marcus Hayes. Rankin was the most recruited community college lineman in the country in addition to being named All-SEC. Following his time at Mississippi State, Rankin was a third-round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2018 NFL draft. Like Rankin, Hayes, Lewis and Bell were also highly ranked recruits. Hayes also earned an All-Region 23 nod.
George and his wife Chelsey are the parents of three daughters: Lucy, Louise and Laura.
